The Kin-ell Klub
Back in 1992 a group of ex-cricketers and wives from B.R.S.A. (now Holtwhites Trinibis CC), now living in various parts of England, decided to meet once a year for a few days holiday.
Originally we called it The Vets Weekend, but in 1995 our name was changed to The Kin-ell Klub (no explanation needed!). This year we will be celebrating our 30th year of Kin-Ell holidays and although sadly our numbers have decreased, we still enjoy a great holiday in a large country house or barn conversion, in unashamed self-catering luxury. This year, we will be celebrating our 30th holiday in Temple Guiting in The Cotswolds.
We have always managed to find new accommodation, as for obvious reasons we have to move on. We have found properties in Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Norfolk, Derbyshire, Wales, Hampshire and Suffolk. One of our highlights was a trip to Barbados in 2004 for cricket (and the sun.) This April we will be holidaying near Stow on the Wold in a luxurious property.
Our days always begin with a superb breakfast prepared by our Chairman and his team, then we all meet again at H.Q. for late afternoon tea. (lots of homemade cakes from our lovely ladies)
Our evenings are spent eating, drinking, playing stupid games, quizzes and cribbage ,We also have a theme night, which gives us the chance to dress up and act even more stupidly than normal.
Consumption of alcohol has changed over the years, as you can see from the table.
Our final evening is our Gala Dinner, organised and prepared by Mike Heathfield and the boys. After which our Fines Officer, who has been busy for 12 months, collects a considerable amount of fines which boosts our funds for next year. He also has the enviable task of awarding “The Helmet” to whoever has done the most stupid thing during the week.
Over the years we have also managed to meet for a Summer Garden Party, which have been held at Eastbourne, Seaford, The Wirral, Enfield, Southgate, Wisbech and South Woodham Ferrers.
